Join us as we sit down with Peter Keys, a Senior Designer with Hamilton Robson as he takes us through his journey over the past 10 years.
I joined Hamilton Robson back in 2016 to start up the CAD team in Ireland. I additionally brought architectural visualisations to the table. I loved doing visuals, and the job offered opportunity to create them. For every new job I would do a set of visuals of how the AV kit would look within the client’s existing rooms. This was a first for the AV industry (or at least in this part of the world).
Working in Hamilton Robson while it was smaller in the beginning stages meant having to put on a few different hats. The first big job was for a social media giant in Dublin where I became an installer learning about terminating CAT cables. Then when completing a project for Medtronic I got to learn about audio software QSC and Shure.
Completing work in W5 is where I learned Avolites media server and lighting. Working with Crumlin Road Gaol brought me into the world of Touchdesigner and show control. Then on Game of Thrones I learned more about Pixera media server and projection mapping.
The most memorable moment I have is from my time working in W5. There was a ten-projector blended 15m screen where the projectors were in a portrait orientation. The first time it was done in Europe and proved to be an interesting challenge!
We had an electronics manufacturer in trying to get the projectors calibrated using three camera setup. To add to this there was a column in the middle preventing a good camera calibration. They got things working best as they could. It still wasn’t right, and the space was opening the next day to the public, so we ended up pulling an all nighter manually tweaking each of the projectors to blend them seamlessly.
The past 10 years with Hamilton Robson have been filled with constant learning, exciting challenges, and some truly incredible projects. From building the CAD function from the ground up to working on industry-first installations and world-class experiences, every project has brought new opportunities to grow and push boundaries.
The journey so far has been an amazing one, and the future promises even more growth, creativity, collaboration, and groundbreaking projects ahead.
